Description
Item 1 - Wrist length white Kidskin antique French Gloves. This beautiful unused pair are still ‘tied’ together, marked size 61/4, Chevreau, 390 and were retailed by 'Au Bon Marche Paris'. Le Bon Marché Rive Gauche was the first department store in the world, and opened in 1852. Original creations and limited editions stood alongside a selection of the most beautiful objects from all over the world. Women’s, men’s and children’s fashion, accessories, tableware and design, but also cultural exhibitions, furniture collections and contemporary works of art filled the space and generated surprise.  Each of the 4 wrist positioned metal buttons are stamped 'au bon marche'. They have a Quirk or ‘querk’ i.e. a small, triangular or diamond shaped piece of material attached to the bottom crease of a fourchette in the 'vee' of the fingers. Quirks allow for extra finger room, as well as mobility.  Item 2 - Opera length evening gloves: It is said true evening gloves are made of Kidskin or Nappa leather. Ideally, they are unlined to get the tightest, most elegant fit. In the past, it was difficult to dye leather pure white, and so cream was also acceptable.  These unlined evening gloves feature the traditional Mousquetaire opening. The Mousquetaire is an approximately three-inch opening on the inside of the wrist of a long glove. Its purpose is to allow the wearer to remove the hand from the glove whilst keeping the sleeve of the glove on the arm. The empty ‘hand’ of the glove is then neatly tucked up inside the sleeve. The hand remains attached and may be tucked inside the sleeve of the glove for dining or an exchange of rings. The Mousquetaire is sealed with dainty buttons or bows. An elegant, versatile touch, it is also most helpful when a ring finger needs to be made available at a wedding. Item 3 - Wrist length white kidskin antique Gloves, with unusual hook and stretch cord closure. Dry Clean only The wooden glove stretchers cater for either long or short gloves
