This little collection consists of nine pieces of antique and vintage clothing, including nighties, shifts, a pair of bloomers and an underskirt. These are clean and fresh but all are very old. Nevertheless, they are in good condition, most of them in a heavy white cotton, with only a few marks here and there. I have described them in some detail below. 1 The underskirt is the most worn, but I'm including it as a curiosity, since it is very pretty, with a tiny waist (barely 20 inches - you would certainly need a corset) pin-tucks, lace inserts and it has been very carefully mended where it has been torn, so somebody has loved it. This one is in an extremely fine, almost translucent muslin, of the kind that you find on old baby gowns, so possibly part of a trousseau? 2 There is a long pair of divided bloomers, with broderie anglais trim. 3 & 4 There are two very pretty shifts, though they could be worn as nighties. One is hand made with broderie anglais trim. The other is commercially made, with very pretty Swiss machine lace. This has a label that reads 'White Lily, Purity, Light Weight.' 5 There is a hand made summer-weight nightie with pin tucks. 6 There is a long sleeved summer-weight nightie with a simple Swiss lace trim. 7,8,9 Finally there are three large, long sleeved, long length Victorian heavy cotton nighties, with collars, button fronts, hand stitching - and in the case of one of them, with a very pretty broderie anglais frill around collar and down the front.
The 200 Year Old House has clarified that the Collection of Nine Pieces of Antique & Vintage Clothing - Nighties, Shifts, Slips & Bloomers (LA226786) is genuinely of the period declared with the date/period of manufacture being Early 1900s
These are clean and fresh but all are old - most are antique, some vintage, 9 pieces in all. The underskirt is perhaps the most damaged, but I'm including it as a curiosity, since it has been very carefully mended. The long, white, typically Victorian nighties are in good condition as are the lighter pieces, and pieces that look to me like 'shifts' to be worn in the day. There are some marks, but apart from the underskirt, all are in reasonable condition for very old textiles.
I'll send these by courier anywhere within the UK for an additional £10.00. Please enquire for overseas shipping - these make a very heavy and quite bulky parcel.
