Country House Style Mid 19th Century Gilded Salon Stool

Fresh in yesterday, we are offering for sale, a mid-19th century hand carved giltwood salon stool in proper and original 'Country House' condition! The gros-point red-ground hand stitched tapestry top is decorated with acanthus leaves, buds and flowerheads and where the lower faded pink upholstery frieze has torn below, the original horse hair and wadding filling is revealed and even though we here at Lambert & Co. love its present rather grand country house look, the purchaser may wish to have it professionally restored as some of the small pieces of exposed white gesso (gilders clay) and giltwood chips around the stool are testament to its undoubted usage and of course, are commensurate with a mid-19th century age. Although the stool is structurally sound and fit for everyday use, being super critical, one of the legs is moving very slightly and in our opinion, this could be remedied with the minimum of effort. The underside again, reveals an original construction and the hand-carved blocks can clearly be seen reinforcing the moulded cabriole legs behind diagonal bracing bars (please see many images supplied). This striking and large-size piece of period giltwood furniture is accentuated by foliate style carving in relief to the tops of the legs and sides to great decorative effect and the moulded cabriole legs terminate in tightly carved French style scrolls. The stool measures 53cm wide, 49cm deep and 48.5cm high. A little Tlc may well be required but very, very well worth the effort otherwise, leave it as is and enjoy the Country House look!
