Description
A Queen Anne period, month duration marquetry longcase clock. A superb walnut marquetry case with bird and floral inlays. Glass side hood apertures and brass capped front and rear hood columns. Fretwork panels to the hood pediment front and sides. A brass lenticle to the trunk door showing the pendulum. An 11 3/4" brass and silvered dial signed 'D Lestourgeon, London'. Wheatear chased border engraving with crown and cherub corner spandrels. A date and seconds dial.
A rarer, month duration, high quality mechanism striking the hours on a bell. Circa 1710.
David Lestourgeon of London is recorded in Baillies' 'The Early Clockmakers of Great Britain' book. He moved from Rouen in 1681 to London. Examples of his work are in the British Museum and the Science Museum in London.
