Description
Clockwise is delighted to offer this oak-cased fantastic example of a Winterhalder and Hofmeier striking drop dial wall clock. Dating from the 1860's this high-quality non-fusee movement strikes on a deep sonorous spiral gong and the eight day rack-striking movement has just been overhauled and as such comes with my three year guarantee. The oak case is of traditional pegged design with a side door and locking lower door and has been restored to show off its lovely patina. There are foliate ears to the lower sides of the case and the twelve inch dial has been expertly restored and is complimented by original spade hands all underneath the original locking brass bezel. Winterhalder and Hofmeier were the industry's leading manufacturer of high quality clocks in the Victorian era.
This clock really is a beautiful piece of furniture and was supplied by Lowe & Sons, a high quality jewellers which still operates today. Being of demure proportions compared to some clocks this piece is therefore easier to home.
Clockwise specialises in longcase and bracket clocks and with clients from the world of business, film, sport, royalty and aristocracy - yet more than happy with traditional clients - Clockwise has an unrivalled reputation for excellence and superb service.
