Early 20th Century Silver Plated Knife / Bread Tray ASPREY

This is a very rare and interesting item in antique silver plate. It is rectangular with a central divide and 2 hinged handles that allow the tray to stand at an angle, making it a very elegant table placement. While commonly refereed to as 'knife trays' today, this item was referred to both as 'knife trays' and 'bread trays' in period literature. Bread is much more likely the original intended use. This is a fine example made by Asprey of London around 1910-1920. This magnificent serving tray measures 30cm long by 5.5cm deep by 22.5 cm wide. The moveable handles add a further 3.5cm to the length of the tray at each end (making a total length of 37cm)
