Early French Striking Carriage Clock c.1840 to 1850)
An early, French striking carriage clock, dating to around 1840. It has a heavy gilded brass case, with a flush fitting top handle chamfered panel sides and a beautifully engraved dial mask and a silvered dial. The 8 day locking plate movement has its original lever platform and strikes the hours and haves on a gong. The gong is stamped "FD" Dimensions 11.00cm wide 15.00cm high 8.00cm deep (4.33 inches wide 5.91 inches high 3.15 inches deep)
