Description
Size: Total length when hanging (mid height) as illustrated 98 cm approximately. Width of shade rim 30 cm. Condition: Good antique condition, complete and in working order. Slight nibble to glass around the top of the shade, no other chips or cracks to the glass fittings. Burner in very good condition. Some old cracks in the iron ball which are probably original. The metalwork has not been painted and retains its original gilding and blacking, with some rust as well. This rise and fall lamp is probably English, although the burner use is the Kosmos Brenner brand, made in Germany. The lamp hangs from a pully mechanism, which has at is centre an iron ball which can be moved up and down to regulate the height of the lamps itself. The whole thing is regulated by the counterbalance of the ball and the lamp. The Kosmos Brenner burner was very efficient compared to other types of burner. Although it is a flat wick, the burner mechanism turns it into a round wick, which burns much better. We have had the lamp alight - please see photo.
