Description
We have for sale a rather unusual and very decorative Edwardian horseshoe inspired shaving stand dating to around 1900-1910.
This very striking shaving stand consists of a horseshoe shaped mirror in supported in turned bobbin wooden frame extending down to a horse shoe shaped table which is then supported on a single turned column which extends down to a smaller lower circular support supported on three turned bobbin legs. The lower support is also decorated with three turned mini spires. The quirky nature of this piece is very reminiscent of the sort of pieces made by the 20th century company Thornton-Smith of Toronto, Canada and 11 Soho Square, London.
This lovely shaving stand is 49.5 inches (125.7cm) high, 18.5 (47cm) wide and 15 inches (38cm) deep.

Penrose Antiques Ltd has clarified that the Edwardian Hourseshoe Design Shaving Stand (LA370339) is genuinely of the period declared with the date/period of manufacture being Edwardian
condition
The shaving stand is in a good condition other than the surface wear one would expect from a functional piece of furniture of this period, although, the mirror does tilt slightly to one side, one of the decorative spires to the lower circular support has been re-fixed in place and there is a repair to the left hand lower bobbin supporting the frame for the mirror.
