Description
An elegant small Edwardian elbow chair in mahogany and inlaid throughout with boxwood stringing. The chair bears the ivorine label for Ralph Johnson, who was a cabinet-maker who founded his business in 1860 and had two establishments in Bridge Street and Rydale Street. The chair back consists of a panelled top rail, four simple horizontal rails and a mid rail of interlocking rings. The chair has downswept arms that rest on vase turned supports. The seat has been fully and entirely traditionally re-upholstered from the frame by The Sitting Place. It is then finished in a lovely quality woven fabric by Clarke & Clarke (Orbit fabric in mineral) with a geometric design that mirrors the rings of the splat. The seat is raised on block feat which taper and are joined by stretchers. This occasional chair may be used as a desk chair for a small bureau or for a desk that has a narrow kneehole. Bonheur du Jour and other accessories are for display purposes only.
