This novelty Edwardian silver "hatching chick" pin cushion was designed by the collectable Sampson Mordan & Co and is fully hallmarked for Chester 1908. It is the small example. The pin cushion is designed as a newly hatched chick sitting in half an egg shell. It is beautifully detailed, with the chick's back being the cushion, which is finished in fushia velvet. The chick is 'weighted' in such a way that, should it be knocked over, it will 'right' itself. Hallmarks: SM & Co for Sampson Mordan & Co Ltd. Lion passant. Chester Assay mark. Date letter "H" for 1908 RD number: 475678
