This is a gorgeous late 18th Century mahogany longcase clock with hand painted arched dial in excellent condition. The rack striking eight day movement by W M Avenell of Farnham has just been overhauled with a beautifully toned bell and the date function works as it should. The cabinet possesses a lovely sheen, the trunk door still having its original key and lock. The dial is in excellent condition, not having been 'over-restored'. Standing 230cm high this really is a very attractive piece and it comes with my standard two year guarantee. William Avenell of Farnham is recorded simply - "died 1825". He was part of the renowned and prolific Avenell extended family of unfailingly excellent clockmakers who worked in Hampshire and Surrey over a 200 year period.
Clockwise has clarified that the Eight Day Georgian Longcase Clock (LA339909) is genuinely of the period declared with the date/period of manufacture being 1770
Rather than trusting a courier of any sort I unreservedly recommend collection or I can deliver regionally. All antique clocks require delicate handling and specific setting up so it is far better for a dealer to meet a client and talk them through the process, or set the clock up for them, rather than leave the client struggling at the other end on their own.
