Description
This is an elegant German striking mantel clock with domed shaped top by Philipp, Haas and Söhne of Germany.
Sitting on its solid brass ‘bun’ feet, the architectural Oak case with delicately handcrafted Boxwood stringing and cartouche marquetry, holds an original white enamelled dial with black Arabic numerals its spade hands secured with a pinned collet. These are then protected by a convex glaze mounted in a spun brass bezel. To the rear of the clock is an exquisite hinged and fish scaled brass fretted door, allowing access to the clock’s movement.
The movement is a high quality 8-day anchor escapement pendulum driven mechanism, striking the hours and half-hours on its original Phs impressed block and coil. The backplate is also stamped with the makers famous lunging rabbit over Phs trademark and numbered “157”.
A lovely, well-proportioned striking mantel clock by one of Germany's globally respected clock makers of the period!
