Description
Early 19th century hard paste porcelain creamer in the low oval shape. Decorated with a version of Spode's patterns 878 & 893; a frieze of burnt orange enamel ground with black stemmed vine, reserving stylised white  flowers with orange and black detail to the centres. The borders are an unusual mix of black enamel and gilt. The handle is decorated with a stylised black acanthus leaf and edged in black, which segues into gilt where it starts to form the rim of the jug. A black band runs under the main frieze and a gilded one just above the base. Unmarked, c.1805. Reference: It appears to be the same in form as the unidentified jug illustrated in plate 397 of Michael Berthoud's Cabinet Of British Creamers. It was acquired along with a teapot which showed very similar features to a Miles Mason example but with a domed internal strainer and so that remains unable to aid identification at this time. It is nicely potted but has unusually low translucency due to the hardness of the paste.
measurements
It measures 7.2cm (2 7/8") high, 14cm (5 1/2") spout to handle and 9cm (3 1/2") wide.
