Description
Rare 19th Century Japanese Meiji period patinated bronze Brush Pot, the cylindrical body very finely decorated in relief with copper, gilt metal, shakudo and silver with individual dragons, Buddhistic lions and flowers within oval ironwork panels. The Brush Pot of an overall, aged dark colouration and raised on an outset, slightly splaying foot having inset underside. The height is 11cm and the diameter of the foot is 10.2cm. The condition is excellent being original and with no issues or problems. Provenance: ex. the personal collection of David Battie, Oriental expert on BBC's Antiques Roadshow for 40 years, the longest serving cast member. Also, originally sold by Toovey's auctioneers, 19th April 2012 (lot 1200) for a hammer price of £800, equating to over £1,000 when buyer's premium and Vat are added.
