Clockwise is delighted to showcase for your consideration an excellent London-made Regency longcase clock in superb condition. This fabulous and elegant piece benefits from a recently overhauled high-quality wire-driven eight day anchor-escapement movement striking the full hours on a lovely bell.
The renovated 12 inch circular enamel convex dial is complimented by original moon hands and the dial is signed by the maker - Bennet, Red Lion St, Holborn, London. The dial is framed by a securely closing original cast brass bezel with a convex glass.
The elegantly proportioned flame mahogany veneered case of typical Regency proportions has chamfered edges to the trunk with decorative beading to the base front above a tall moulded plinth. The hood is of architectural form surmounted by three elegant brass finials. There is further decorative inlaid ebony to each corner and sound windows with brass fretwork to each side with red lining behind. The hood retains its original swivel lock to further secure it to the case. The overall height of this clock is 7 feet 2 inches and the clock benefits from my three year warranty.
James Bennet of Red Lion Street was a pawnbroker and jeweller recorded working in 1818. Very few clocks are recorded by this maker, one fine fusee bracket clock coming up at Sothebys (Australia) in May 2008 as the property of Toorak mansion, Trawalla.
Clockwise specialises in longcase and bracket clocks and with global clients from the world of business, film, sport, royalty and aristocracy - yet more than happy with traditional clients - Clockwise has an unrivalled reputation for excellence and superb service.
