We have a large showroom on site in Cornwall PL24 2SR displaying items in room settings, plus a large barn full of exciting objects awaiting some form of restoration. We currently have over 3,000 items in stock. So if you can't see it here always ask. We only restore pieces that require minimal work, not complete overhauling. Description
A late 19th-century vanity dressing case by Pittway Brothers, London.
It is beautifully made of dark green Morrocan hide. Bramah lock and a swan neck carrying handle, with gilded initials OW. Inside it has various brushes, compacts, a mirror, glove stretchers and button hooks, All made from faux tortoiseshell with silver monograms inlaid with the initials OW.
Very high quality and indeed expensive when new.
Pittway Brothers, London silversmiths and retailer of fine quality fitted portmanteaux and toilet cases. Thought to have been established in 1784, and subsequently by John and William Pittway, was acquired in circa 1861 by William Tween and Frederick Purnell, who continued to run the business under its former name. By the late 1860s Tween had left the business leaving Purnell to continue alone.
