French Carved Mirrored Armoire, Wardrobe ‘aux Mérions’

A stunning antique French Rococo style mirrored armoire made from beautiful parquet-style veneer on the panels with excellent quality carving throughout. The crest is finished with carved roses and ribbon detail giving it an elegant and distinctive look. In French tradition these were often commissioned as a wedding gift, the flowers represented prosperity while the ribbon bow symbolised the union of the couple. It has two bevelled mirrored doors, decorative turned columns, a carved frieze, and a full-width drawer. Inside offers plenty of storage space with four shelves that can set at your preferred height and a lower shelf with 2 drawers. Retaining its original ‘Aux Mérions’ retailer’s plaque, this armoire was originally sold through the historic Aux Mérions department store at 99, rue de Paris, Le Havre, Normandy. Known for offering quality furniture and home furnishings, the presence of the original retailer’s label provides valuable provenance and enhances the piece’s authenticity and appeal. Overall, the wardrobe is in lovely condition with the expected signs of age and long-term use. There is a small area of veneer loss at the bottom of the doors from years of opening and closing.
