Antique French Cast Iron Coal Scuttle Coal Hod with Grotesque Mask c.1880 Antique French cast iron coal scuttle, dating from the late 19th century and featuring an ornate Rococo Revival design. Richly decorated with scrolling acanthus foliage, shell motifs and an impressive grotesque (mascaron) mask, this is a highly decorative and substantial fireside piece inscribed Godin Lemaire. The hinged lid opens to reveal the coal compartment, while the body is raised on four integral feet and retains its original aged patina. The quality of the casting and elaborate detailing make this an eye-catching piece that would complement both traditional and contemporary interiors. Originally intended for storing coal beside the fireplace, it now makes a wonderful decorative object for period homes, country houses, boutique interiors or anyone with an appreciation for antique architectural ironwork.
