Description
A fine George I large Britannia Standard silver Basting Spoon, in Hanoverian Rattail pattern, with rib to the front of the stem and contemporary Widow's coat of arms to the terminal of the handle. By Paul de Lamerie, London 1723. Also marked with a small capital letter 'P' - probably a workman's mark for Thomas Peirce, who went on to register this mark at Goldsmiths' Hall in 1730 (See: Grimwade 2116, page 154). Prior to 1730 the mark has been noted on other flatware, in particular Spoons by William & Richard Scarlett.
