Description
This superb cruet retains all of its original fittings, including the finely hand-cut glass bottles and matching silver mounts. The set comprises a large central sugar caster engraved with the original owner's coat of arms, flanked by a pair of matching spice or pepper casters. To the rear are two beautifully cut original glass bottles for oil and vinegar, each fitted with detachable silver tops that rest securely within the frame's side rings.
The Warwick stand is of classic cinquefoil form, raised on shell feet and fitted with a graceful carrying handle, displaying the elegant Rococo styling that made these cruets such an important feature of a well-appointed Georgian dining table. Similar examples by Samuel Wood are recognised for their fine design and originality.
A wonderful and complete example by the celebrated caster and cruet maker Samuel Wood, combining rarity, functionality, and exceptional decorative appeal. Such original Warwick cruets remain among the most attractive and collectible pieces of Georgian table silver.
