George III Mahogany 'Sheraton Style' Elbow Chair
REF: 2655 / LA366472
A fine George III mahogany 'Sheraton style' elbow chair with a fine reeded frame having shaped and reeded decorated top rail and three vertical pierced splats with leafy carvings. The arms are reeded, swept and curve down to the front having flower head carving to the terminals. A drop in seat rests into the frame on square tapering legs joined by a classic H-stretcher. Sheraton's name is associated with the styles of furniture fashionable in the 1790s and early 19th Century. Sheraton himself actually produced very little furniture in the last 20 years of his life, but he did inspire an entire generation of furniture makers to produce what we call the 'Sheraton style', popular from roughly 1790 to 1820.
Lee Wright Antiques Ltd has clarified that the George III Mahogany 'Sheraton Style' Elbow Chair (LA366472) is genuinely of the period declared with the date/period of manufacture being George III
