George III Provincial Chest of Drawers – Satinwood (or Similar Light Hardwood) with Walnut Crossbanding – c. 1760–1780 A highly attractive mid–late 18th-century provincial chest of drawers, constructed in a beautifully mellow satinwood (or closely related light hardwood such as sycamore/maple) and framed with rich walnut crossbanding — a classic decorative pairing of the period. The chest features the traditional Georgian arrangement of two short drawers over three long graduated drawers, each fitted with handsome brass plate handles and matching escutcheons. The front displays a gorgeous contrast: the pale, glowing central panels set within darker walnut borders that emphasise the crisp lines and early craftsmanship. The top is similarly crossbanded, showing honest age-related wear and a gently burnished patina built over 250 years. Standing on shaped bracket feet, the piece retains excellent proportions and has that unmistakable warm, country-house presence. A superb example of 18th-century craftsmanship using desirable light timbers. Elegant, practical, and full of character.
