We have for sale a very nice very fine example of a George III Silver Shilling dating to 1787.
The George III 1787 shilling depicts the George III bust facing right to the obverse and a crusiform arrangement of arms celebrating the unity of the growing British Empire on the reverse. These coins were produced during an interesting period coinciding with the American war of independence (1775-1783) and also with the first deportation of the convicts to Australia (May 1787). There is some evidence that some of these coins found their way to Australia during those first deportations giving them a special significance in the Australian coin market.
This particular coin is in a 25mm in diameter and weighs 6.03g according to our scales. It is in a Very Fine condition showing some obvious but limited surface wear to the features and limited surface wear of the diagonal milling to the edge.
