Description
Magnificent, fine and impressive, rare George V English sterling silver cake stand made by Omar Ramsden; an addition to our ornamental silverware collection. This magnificent and rare George V sterling silver three-tiered cake stand has a circular form, in the iconic Art Nouveau manner. The pierced decorated frame is embellished with cast organic-shaped designs. The upper portion of the arched stand incorporates a leaf decorated carrying handle. The stand is composed of three circular receivers, each retaining their original porcelain plates. The original plates bear yellow decoration, accented with gold highlights; this is typical ornamentation of the period. This antique silver cake stand is supported by four scrolling legs, accented with naturalistic textures and terminating with bun style feet. The underside of each plate bears the maker's mark 'Hammersley & Co, Longton, Stoke on Trent, England'. This magnificent and rare silver cake stand was crafted by the collectable and renowned silversmith Omar Ramsden and bears the Latin engraving 'Omar Ramsden Me Fecit' - Omar Ramsden made me to the underside. Such cake stands of this period are typically electroplated; solid sterling silver examples are becoming increasingly difficult to locate and are highly desirable. Maker: Omar Ramsden Origin: London, England
