Timeless Georgian Elegance - Form, Function & History
This superb quality antique Georgian Housekeeper’s Cupboard of good scale and has good proportions which makes it a sought-after size. It is handsome, timeless & versatile and has all of the original components. It is sturdy and stands tall and firmly on the original well shaped Georgian bracket feet with shapely and decorative apron plinth. The original backboards to both sections are well constructed; the doors retain the original hinges and are in good working order and close comfortably
This item would certainly grace any home and would look superb in a variety of rooms, and would be perfect for use in a large free-standing kitchen. The exterior has been later painted in a Specialist Mottled Green Speckle Finish which has been antiqued and distressed to represent the finish often seen on such pieces of this period.
It is well constructed and in a very good, strong condition, suitable for daily use. It has natural signs of wear commensurate with age. The cupboard dismantles into two sections for easy transportation and movement.
The top section boasts an elegant protruding cornice above the 2 cupboard doors which have arched shaped mouldings and are flanked to either side by decorative pillars - the more one looks the more exquisite detail there is to find. The top section sits inside the base section which has a shaped Broken Ogee moulding. Upon opening the doors 2 fixed shelves are revealed giving 3 compartments each providing generous storage
The bottom section of the cupboard houses working drawers, arranged in a two-over-three configuration and it stands securely on the decorative shaped original apron plinth and Georgian bracket feet. All the drawers run smoothly and close flush to the frame
We mix our palette of paint colours from those used within the Georgian era and also from various periods within Continental Europe, mixed according to our traditional recipe and applied by hand with great precision; our finish involves multiple techniques and differing consistencies and varied ingredients for each part of the process. Our Specialist Paint Finishes are designed to retain the historical charm and authenticity of the item whilst enabling use within our contemporary era. We describe the colours with more contemporary names, which we hope are accurately descriptive.
This is a very labour intensive system and the correct amount of time has to be allowed between each the different processes to ensure that we can establish that our quality remains consistently high. Due to the natural pigments within the wood from which each item is constructed and the individual processes there are inevitably some very minor variations in tone and an exact colour match is not always possible.
For a complete assessment of the item's condition, we encourage you to carefully examine all the provided photos. These pictures are integral to the description and condition report of the item, providing crucial visual details about its appearance and quality.
