Georgian Mahogany Card Table With Concertina Action

This is a late 18th century (c.1780) mahogany concertina action card table. The table stands on square chamfered legs, decorated with 'c' scroll brackets to the front and side. The table-frame extends and is held in place with an oak slide that runs in a groove inside the frame. This design of extending card table is the superior model, as when open has a leg in each corner (as opposed to to a swing out leg type). The top opens to reveal a green baize lined playing surface, including four 'wells' for gaming counters or coins (often called 'guinea wells' after the coin of the same name).
