Description
This exceptional Georgian bacon settle is a rare and exciting find, reclaimed from an estate in Yorkshire.
Benefitting from a large cupboard with vertical doors, which when opened reveal the original hooks used to store meat. Atop this the canopy offering additional storage and further cupboard space is found underneath the seat. The oak has been skilfully carved, has a great colour and fantastic patina.
Bacon settles were originally made to hang and store cured and smoked meats and would have been positioned as a room divider with its' back to the fire making it a warm, dry place to preserve foodstuffs and household items.
The settle would look wonderful in a farmhouse style kitchen providing both seating and useful storage or in a large hallway for hanging coats and as place to sit whilst putting on shoes.
