An exceptional Georgian “Ring of the Heavens” design, dating to circa 1820.
This rare and highly desirable antique ring is set with a central rose-cut diamond within a star-shaped motif, accented by six further tiny rose cuts that add subtle sparkle. The star is framed by a rich cobalt blue glass dome, evoking the midnight sky, and encircled by a halo of lustrous natural pearls symbolising twinkling stars.
The elegant splayed shoulders and grooved shank complete the refined design, while the closed-back setting is typical of Georgian craftsmanship. Rings of this style were known as Bagues au Firmament – jewels inspired by the night sky, favoured in France during the late 18th and early 19th century. Marie Antoinette herself was said to have worn such jewels, making this design historically significant as well as beautifully romantic.
Comfortable and flattering on the finger, this piece combines delicate artistry with timeless symbolism. It remains in exceptional original condition, a rare survival from the early 19th century.
