This fine antique George II cast sterling silver taperstick has a plain classical English form. The cylindrical capital of this Georgian taperstick is encircled with bands of tooled decoration. The capital retains the original sterling silver sconce ornamented with a segmented design accented with shell motifs. The waisted section of the knopped column features a quatrefoilshaped knop ornamented with a shell design to each corner. The plain sunken well is embellished with a contemporary engraved coat of arms depicting between a chevron, two roundels and a crescent This Georgian taper candlestick is supported by an incurved shaped base embellished with a shell motif to each convexity.
