A good example of a primitive Windsor chair dating from the early 19th Century and most likely originating from the Westcountry. It has a hoop back enclosing tapered spindles with a three piece arm that gently curves outwards. It has a solid saddle shaped elm seat with a flat front and it stands on turned legs joined by a H-stretcher. It is a good comfortable chair, sturdy and well made. It has a beautiful patina and the grain on the seat is just lovely.
It is in very good condition for its age and is structurally sound. The chair is not without some signs of age and use, some marks and knocks but nothing untoward and it displays beautifully. There have been some old repairs and there is a small metal bracket bracing below the curve of the back arm but it is strong and sturdy and doesn't concern us.
It is approximately 37" (94cm) high and the arms are 22 1/2" (57cm) wide. The seat is 14 1/2" (37cm) deep and stands 17 3/4" (45cm) high.
The best description comes from the photos so please look at them all carefully and if you have any questions just ask.
