GILLOWS of LANCASTER: a fine early 19th century rosewood CARD TABLE of particularly good and impressive quality. The beautifully-figured top, with its bead-moulding to the lower edge rotates 90 degrees to open and reveal the green baize-lined interior, whilst the rest of the frieze is left plain. It is supported on a turned and finely carved balluster column with two gadrooned ‘collars’ leading to sabre legs and fine cast brass ornate castors. A stunning table! ***A very similar card table is illustrated in “Gillows of Lancaster and London” by Susan Stuart, Vol 1 page 262 and a table with a similar base is illustrated in Vol 2 page 376.
Quiet Street Antiques has clarified that the Gillows of Lancaster – Good Early 19th Century Rosewood Card Table (LA222395) is genuinely of the period declared with the date/period of manufacture being c.1810-1830
