We have for sale a rather lovely late Victorian arts and crafts silver quaich made by the excellent silversmith William Hutton and Sons Ltd for Goldsmiths Goldsmiths and Silversmith Company Ltd. this very decorative arts and crafts silver quaich consist of a flat bottomed planished body extending to two pierced handles decorated with a foliate thistle design. The bowl of the quiach carries full English hallmarks for London 1900 along with the maker's marks for William Hutton and Sons Ltd, whilst the base is marked Goldsmiths and Silversmiths Company Ltd of 112 Regent Street London. the word quaich is derived from the Gaelic word cuach, which describes a shallow two handled drinking bowl traditionally used by Scottish clans to drink whisky. This quaich is 1.5 inches (3.8cm) high, has a diameter 4.6 (11.7cm) inches, a width from handle to handle of 7 inches (17.8cm) and weighs 4.4 ounces (137.5g). The quaich is in a good to very good condition other than the makers mark for William Hutton and Sons Ltd being rubbed but recognisable and some surface wear commensurate with age.

The quaich is in a good to very good condition other than the maker's mark for William Hutton and Sons Ltd being rubbed but recognizable and some surface wear commensurate with age.
