Description
A well-proportioned and honest Charles II oak chest of drawers, dating from circa 1680, with strong presence and excellent period character. Constructed in two sections, the piece displays the robust craftsmanship typical of the late 17th century.
The upper section features two short drawers flanking a central moulded panel, above two long drawers below, all with deeply moulded geometric fronts. These bold, architectural drawer fronts are characteristic of the period and give the piece real visual impact. The drawers retain their original side runners, an important early construction detail, and are fitted with attractive brass drop handles, likely original or of the period.
The chest stands on original stile feet with later applied moulded detailing. The oak has developed a rich, warm colour and pleasing patina over time, with the top showing expected, honest wear consistent with age.
A classic and increasingly desirable example of late 17th century English oak furniture, offering both decorative appeal and practical storage. Equally suited to a period interior or as a statement piece in a more contemporary setting.
