Handsome Late 19th Century Gothic Revival Armchair / Library Chair

A particularly well-shaped armchair, taking its influence from the Gothic Revival period and being of a high quality - rather than “ run of the mill”. It was the quality and look that enticed us to purchase this chair. It’s a handsome beast with a dense mahogany frame, being the centre of attraction. The arms with their angular front and deep, beautifully shaped sides sit on four thick legs - the front two being well shaped, sharp and well-turned all sitting on brass and pot castors. The shaped, upholstered back in the same deep burgundy acanthus leaf patterned fabric is finished with tarnished brass studs. The wide seat and arms are in good condition with no holes just showing a little overall wear. The frame is firm, no repairs apart from a small amount of play in one of the arms – nothing that would stop you using it and there are historic marks to the sides. The seat springs have been tightened with the old webbing and hessian having been freshly replaced. Overall a great looking chair of pleasing quality. We do have a smaller armchair of similar design and style which is upholstered in the same fabric.
