Hazells Streamline Tennis Racket / Blue Star Triple Shaft Racquet c.1930

This scarce antique Hazells Streamline tennis racket which is the blue star model dates from the 1930's and has a wooden frame with triple shaft. This iconic lawn tennis racket has it's original leather grip, leather cap end marked with the Hazells Ltd Triangle logo, the blue star decal on the throat, Hazells Streamline logo and is stamped with Patent. Comes with the tennis clamp/press as shown. The Streamline racket design was patented by former tennis player and inventor Frank W. Donisthorpe and was filed in 1934. Hazells produced a range of Streamline rackets and the Blue Star was a high-quality tournament grade racket. It became famous through its association with Bunny (Henry) Austin who was an English tennis champion of the 1930s and runner up at Wimbledon in 1932 and 1938 who promoted and played with the design. It was known for it's striking appearance, lightweight construction and reduced wind resistance which Hazells claimed improved balance and control. This iconic and innovative design 1930s tennis racket has become very scarce and would be an excellent addition for a collector of tennis rackets or a museum piece.
