Description
Offered for sale is this handmade chest of drawers which is of very high quality. A continuation of the skills developed and used in The Cotswold School. There are many modern cabinet makers, designers who make furniture using traditional techniques throughout the UK. The chest does have crisp dovetails and a slight Barnsley workshop feel to it. One can see its quality in the photos. Its very heavy and solid walnut.
Try costing a cabinet maker to make you an identical one!
The date has been added as being 20th century. Its difficult to date but its not of the arts and crafts period and I would strongly suggest made within the last forty years.

There are some very minor marks/scratches on the top surface but they are more surface mounted and luckily don't run deep. The front has an odd mark commensurate with age. One tiny chip on the veneer around a drawer. The drawers run well but I would use candlewax on the base to ease the sliding in and out. The maker of this chest added two tiny strips on the underneath and back of the drawers like a seesaw effect so one can't completely pull out the drawer without playing with the drawer a bit. Its hard to explain. Imagine pulling the drawers out two thirds of the way and a safety feature stopped you pulling it out further and one had to release this feature to take the drawer out .Say sitting in a car and a seat belt. Its very heavy and requires a two man lift.
All of the above has now been restored professionally and sympathetically as can be seen in the photos ; apart from the first one which shows the chest prior to restoring ; all the other photos are of the chest restored .
