Description
A fantastic 3.5" gauge model based on George Stephenson's iconic 1829 "Rocket" locomotive.
Produced by Hornby in the 70's to a high standard.
With its yellow paint, white flared chimney, and large front drive wheels powered by 45-degree-angled pistons, Stephenson's Rocket is probably the most distinctive member of the family of early steam locomotives.
This model is one of the few steam-powered locos that Hornby ever made and appears hardly used.
This particular set is in fantastic condition, comes in original box with outer packaging, including an instruction manual, original tools and metal chimney cap.
The 25 feet of clip-together track is unusual in that some pieces have different lengths of track on each side.
They can either be clipped together the same way to produce a curve or a circle, or pairs can be clipped together so that the total track length on each side matches, producing straight sections.
Although included, the original plastic gas cylinder was unreliable and has been replaced by a new aftermarket and safer metal cylinder.
This set looks as though it has hardly been used but the gas cylinder and burner have been briefly tested to ensure working.
It just needs water added and the cylinder filled with gas and you are ready to go!
