Imposing Antique Dogs of Fo Glazed Terracotta Dragon Lions

A fine and imposing pair of French glazed terracotta Dogs of Foe in the Chinese blanc de chine style dating from around 1900. The fabulous dogs are presented on large glazed plinths that give a great presence and impact. These fine examples are modelled in typical seated pose holding the dragon ball between their front paws. The dogs of foe are also referred to as Chinese guardian lions and were traditionally used to protect and guard against evil often seen outside a place of business, a major palace or a temple in China. This pair are very impressive and in excellent condition.
