Imposing Carved Hardwood Chest West African

A superb early 20th century hand carved African chest of good useful size with fabulous ethnic carved detail depicting tribal figures in traditional garb and headdress. The chest dates from around 1900 and is most characterfully detailed, with the lid showing warriors approaching the tribe leader, seated and in fabulous costume, all figures wearing the traditional neck rings. The ends of the chest showcase figures in symmetrical profile, with imposing headdress, neck ring and stylised plaited hair. Good solid condition. Nice colour.
