An interesting framed 18th Century hand-sewn TAPESTRY depicting the Annunciation (*). Most 17th and 18th Century tapestries are of a religious nature – here the finely sewn and well detailed scene shows the Angel Gabriel informing the Virgin Mary that she she would conceive and become the mother of Jesus. (*) The Annunciation (literally ‘The Announcement’) is an important Christian feast held 9 months before Christmas (the ceremonial birthday of Jesus) and coinciding with the Northern Spring Equinox. Dated: c.1720-40
