Interesting Rare French Mantel Clock – 4 Glass Table clock with Elliott Pendulum & painted Father of Time Dial. Good Quality French Mantel Clock Visible Swinging Ellicott Pendulum The "French Ellicott" Aesthetic: In the 1800s, French makers of high-end "four-glass" mantel clocks loved the visual look of the Ellicott design. They constructed ornate pendulums featuring two polished brass side rods framing a central steel rod. This one is also floral engraved. Ormolu case 4 bevelled glass panels Enamel white dial Hand painted with father of time Black Arabic numerals Original French hands Front wind Original finish to the case Bell Striking on the half hour and hour Working order – recently fully serviced by me This clock dates to around 1890 On silk suspension Measures 27cm high by 17cm wide and 14cm depth. A four-glass clock (also known as a French crystal regulator) is a highly collectible style of antique mantel clock characterized by a brass, ormolu, or champlevé enamel case with four clear glass panels (front, back, and sides) Popularized in France during the late 19th century (circa 1870–1910), this design was specifically engineered to showcase the mechanical movement, the escapement, and the ornate pendulum swinging inside.
