Description
Interesting and Rare French Mantel Clock By Henry Marc, MOP Case Ormolu Mounts Visible Pendulum C1840 Good Quality French Mantel Clock Rare Mother of Pearl Case Visible Swinging Pendulum Ormolu mounts Winged Cherub Finial to the top Enamel white dial Signed Henry Marc A Paris Black Roman and Blue Arabic numerals Original French gilt hands Front wind Bevel glass brass bezel Original finish to the case Bell Striking on the half hour and hour Working order – recently fully serviced This clock dates to around 1840 On silk suspension Measures 42cm high by 22.5cm wide and 10cm depth. The Maker (Henry Marc): Operating from Paris in the mid-19th century, Henry Marc was renowned for high-quality "Pendule de Paris" 8-day mechanical movements. His clocks typically feature a twin-barrel setup with an outside count-wheel striking the hours and half-hours on a silvered bell. The Case Style (MOP & Ormolu): Most standard mantel clocks of this era used slate, marble, or porcelain. A full Mother of Pearl veneered case—often paired with intricate brass or tortoiseshell inlay in the Boulle style—is exceptionally rare. The contrasting, finely-chased ormolu (gold-mercury gilded bronze) mounts indicate a luxury tier item.
