Description
Discover your own little bit of Japan with this Vintage Handmade Kokeshi doll. Experience its handmade beauty, with its captivating design taking you on an adventure of a lifetime.
Kokeshi dolls are traditional Japanese wooden dolls that originated in the Tohoku region of Japan. The history of Kokeshi dolls can be traced back to the early 19th century, although the exact origins and the precise details of their development are not well-documented.
The dolls were originally made as toys for children, and they were often crafted by skilled artisans who were primarily woodworkers. The early Kokeshi dolls had a simple design with a cylindrical body and a round head. They were typically hand-carved from a single piece of wood and painted with minimalistic patterns using vibrant colors.
Normally signed on the base, but now and again they are signed on the body, which I think is nice to see, mainly because of the artistic flare of Japanese script adding value to the overall design.
