A fine quality, walnut floral marquetry longcase clock. A flat moulded hood pediment to the case of small proportions. A concave panel below and barley twist hood front and rear quarter columns with gilded capitals. Glass hood side panels. Marquetry panels to the trunk door with a brass lenticle showing the pendulum. Bird and floral panels to the base section.
A 10" brass and silvered dial with small winged cherub corner spandrels. A silvered chapter ring engraved 'John Hudson, London'. A gilt matted dial centre with a date aperture and seconds dial. Brass cased weights. A 5 pillar, month duration mechanism striking the hours on a bell. An outside striking count wheel. Circa 1690.
John Hudson of London is recorded in Loomes' ' Early Clockmakers of Great Britain' book as working from 1684.
