A fine pearlware dinner plate with blue transfer printed decoration, manufactured by Joseph Heath & Co. at the Newfield Pottery, Tunstall, Staffordshire. Produced for the American market, it shows the residence of Richard Jordan, New Jersey. Jordan (1756 - 1826) became a Quaker preacher and was one of the first to speak out against slavery. He was drawn by his friend William Mason, a drawing master from Philadelphia, standing outside his farmhouse at Camden, New Jersey in 1826. This drawing was engraved by Francis Kearny (1785-1837) and published in 1826 or 1827. This then became the source material for the present plate. The reverse of the plate bears the blue printed cartouche bearing the title and the initials of Heath & Co. and also the impressed 'propellor' mark, set within a circle of dots.
The plate measures 10 1/4 inches in diameter
