Large 19th Century English Regency Mahogany Drum Table

A Large 19th Century English Regency Mahogany Drum Table. Of of large size and good proportions and interesting column support, this is a beautiful example of a regency drum table. It has four working drawers and four dummy drawer fronts, all with cast gilt brass handles with flower and beaded decoration. The top retains the original faded and patinated leather insert, with almost all of its intricate and attractive gilt tooling. The collar on the column support has very distinctive reeded detailing, often associated with the Gillows firm. The hipped cabriole legs seen on this table are also seen on various marked Gillows pieces and it is therefore quite likely that they were the makers of this particular table. The quality of the mahogany used throughout is certainly of the level expected of a top quality firm. The legs terminate in paw form castor caps which are very finely cast and nicely finished. The table has attained a beautiful patination over the years. An exceptional example.
