Description
This is a large antique four draw telescope. An English, brass and mahogany terrestrial or maritime spyglass, dating to the William IV period, circa 1835. Of excellent proportion and finish, this fine optical instrument presents with both practical appeal and decorative presence. Perfect for bird watching, landscape appreciation, wildlife, or maritime observation. Equally suitable for observing the night sky. Crafted from quality brass, displaying rich golden tones and gentle age patina. Primary barrel dressed in quality stock, with fine grain interest and rich russet hue. Replete with a pleasingly patinated leather carry case, finished in a warm tan hue. Large, bright 48mm diameter objective lens, set within a shallow hood. Eye cup featuring a sliding cover that limits the size of the opening. Smooth action draw tubes, extending and collapsing with ease. Engraved for the maker William Harris, 22 Cornhill - London. Harris occupied this location between 1828 and 1835. Secondary engraving likely for a previous owner, reading CC Harvey. A fine example of a Victorian spyglass, equally suited to terrestrial or maritime observation. Supplied with a London Fine oak and brass 'Captain's Stand' for display. This antique four draw telescope is a handsome, collectable example, with an elegant finish and enduring appeal for both maritime enthusiasts and antique collectors alike. Delivered ready to enjoy. We offer a 100% satisfaction guarantee with all of our antiques. Please contact us if you require any further information - we are here to help.
