Description
This is a large antique pier cabinet. An English, walnut glazed display cupboard by Druce & Co, dating to the early Victorian period, circa 1850.
Superior Victorian craftsmanship with a generous proportion that displays a desirable aged patina and in good order. Select walnut stocks present fine grain interest and rich caramel hues. Further appeal to the book-matched top figuring.
Tall, bright display glass to the door, dressed with a brass lock escutcheon — key present. Serpentine door frame a distinctive choice, offering more visual appeal than usual. Canted corners host quality ormolu mounts with foliate relief decoration. Beautifully inlaid fascia, accentuated with boxwood stringing.
Door opens wide to show the two shelf interior, well spaced for medium sized ornament display. Graced with the original velvet lining, lightly time worn with careful use. Maker's plaque to the upper door for Druce & Co of Baker Street, London. Standing upon a plinth base, with canted corners and short bracket feet.
This is an exceptional antique pier cabinet, graced with wonderful colour and crafted to the usual standard expected of Druce & Co. Solid joints and construction, delivered ready for the home.
We offer a 100% satisfaction guarantee with all of our antiques.
