It is likely continental in origin and has metal carrying handles on the sides and the lid opens on its original blacksmith-made strap hinges. It stands on turned bun feet and is a good quality piece with handmade dovetail joints. A good size for a coffee table, end of bed storage or toy trunk. It is in good condition for its age. It is strong and sturdy and generally clean and tidy inside. There are some signs of historic worm, particularly around the base and in the back, which has all been treated as a precaution.
